Rangpur Sugar Mill was built in 1955 on 93 acres of land which is located in present day Gaibandha district Mahimaganj . After a long half-century, the mill closed in 2001 due to various adversities . Thousands of workers and about 30,000 sugarcane farmers became unemployed. The mill was reopened in 2007. Its annual production capacity is fifteen thousand mt.
